Greater Los Angeles Chapter is NOW the Golden West Chapter.
Long Beach, CA -
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a motor neuron disease. It was first described in 1869, by the noted French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot. Now, some 140+ years later,
the cause of ALS is still not completely understood! Gratefully, this last decade has brought a wealth of new scientific understanding about the disease that provides hope for the future.
The ALS Greater Los Angeles Chapter (now known as the Golden West Chapter) is part of a network of 40 chapters. They offer a variety of support services to help persons living with ALS (PALS) and their caregivers.
Remarkably, ALL services are provided free of charge!
This is made possible by the generous support of others: From the smallest donation to the largest gift, donors are the ones that give ALS community hope for the future. The ALS Association Greater Los Angeles Chapter is waging the war
against this killer 24/7. Every 90 minutes, an American dies of ALS. This terrible disease knows no racial, ethnic, religious, sexual orientation or socioeconomic boundaries. It can strike anyone at any time.
The IN show was given the honor of covering one of ALS' fundraising events: the "Walk to Defeat." We were able to interview those responsible for putting the event together and they shared why it is so important
to get the word out to the public that although much has happened with fighting ALS, so much more must be done!
We also had the pleasure to video the beginning of the walk and witness the power of ONE. Teams were walking as one representing someone important to them that either were ill with ALS or who lost their life to this terrible disease.
Please, after watching and listening, we encourage you to visit the ALS site here and see what you can do to help them deliver a knock-out in this fight against Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Angie, Event Coordinator give some specifics into what the ALSALA provides to those with Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Fred Fisher, Director of the ALS Association Greater Los Angeles Chapter, gives some important insight into both the ALSALA and the Disease itself.
The ALSALA does important work in both bringing awareness to the community and being a solid source to those with the disease!
Because ALSALA provides all of their services free to those with Lou Gehrig's Disease, it is people like Giovanna who find a way to bring funds in to continue providing those services.
Giovanna explains why ALSALA raises funds, how those funds are raised, and how they are able to provide services to PALS.
