June 5, 2012 6:30 pm US/Pacific
Privacy Summit for Los Angeles Application Developers at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel.
Santa Monica, CA -
In the midst of the all-consuming E3Expo 2012, the Application Developers {Alliance}, along with CBS Interactive, MEDL Mobile and Mobile Deluxe held a pressing Roundtable Discussion and
Networking Event on Privacy for Los Angeles developers and industry stakeholders.
The Application Developers {Alliance} is a trade association which was created to give voice to the Developer Community and to bring cohesian to an industry that is exploding at an enormous rate.
With one to two million individuals in America alone making their living by building great apps for both consumers and businesses, that explosion inspired the cross-country Roundtable Discussions on
privacy.
The {Alliance}'s goal is to talk to the people that are building the great products and services, to find out whether those people are thinking about the information gathered on consumers, and to be the voice,
advocate and collective wisdom for those working in the Apps Ecosystem.
The response has been astounding. The conversations are not only taking place but are also having a profound effect on behalf of the members joining the Application Developers {Alliance} community known as {The Alliance Network}.
Josh Hartwell, CEO, Mobile Deluxe
The Roundtable was moderated by Josh Hartwell, CEO of Mobile Deluxe. Mr. Hartwell has more than a decade of experience in the mobile game industry. He is instrumental in the development and publication of gaming titles, has brought about industry
firsts, and continuously moves forward in the gaming, digital and app worlds. Josh "defines the company strategy, shepherds partnerships, and leads finance." He brings the wealth of his knowledge and experience of industry to the Application Developers {Alliance} and
adds his excitement and tangible expectations of where the Apps Ecosystem is heading.
The members of the Roundtable at this Los Angeles event were:
Panel Discussion Part 1 of 3
Tim Sparapani, Senior Advisor for Advocacy and Law, Application Developers Alliance. Before joining the Application Developers Alliance, Mr. Sparapani was the first Director of Public Policy for Facebook.
Pam Dixon, Executive Director of the World Privacy Forum. The World Privacy Forum, a world-wide research group based in San Diego, is focused on the parts of privacy that really matter: people.
Richard Qui, Vice President of Business Development for TRUSTe. TRUSTe is a leading service provider of privacy to many major businesses and brands.
Dennis Lee, CEO of PlayUP USA.
Ilan Goldman, Chief Legal Officer Head of Safety, Security, Privacy for Gogii, the makers of Text Plus
Apps are being created at a stunning pace. Content providers, app creators and end users are being, and will continue to be, affected by current and upcoming regulations as legislated by a body that may very well be out of touch with the Apps Ecosystem. Additionally,
privacy is understandably at the forefront of developers', businesses' and consumers' minds. The Application Developers {Alliance} is doing the lion's share of enabling developers and industry stakeholders to make privacy a top priority from the start - as is evidenced by the highly valuable
Roundtable Discussions.
Panel Discussion Part 2 of 3
The Roundtable discussed Privacy as it stands in 2012: its meaning, how it is utilized, its value, and its role with respect to apps and the people who make and use them. As a series, which has already taken place in various parts of the US, the {Alliance} is
proactively reaching out to developers, keeping the conversations on privacy healthy, ensuring the success of the industry, and educating both sides of the Apps Ecosystem.
The {Alliance} encourages developers and industry experts to join in on the conversation. They want developers and industry experts to know that there is a community that is being heard on The Hill, remaining educated with the legislative climate and
moderating the Privacy discussions.
As Dennis Lee, CEO of PlayUP USA, has said, "The Privacy Summit is the ideal opportunity to engage and discuss what is taking place nationwide." And the icing on the cake is that the {Alliance} has provided an additional way for industry developers and experts alike to
stay abreast of the Apps Ecosystem: The opportunity to become a member of the Application Developers {Alliance}.
Panel Discussion Part 3 of 3
In today's never-ending changes with regards to the internet, mobility, gaming, applications and more, becoming a member of the Application Developers {Alliance} is one of the most important
career decisions that can be made. This new association is clearly dedicated to the unique needs of app developers, investors, companies and stakeholders - as evidenced by the Privacy Summit.
With members at 6,000 (at the time of this article) and growing, anyone who joins can rest assured that they'll have the benefit of industry leaders' and peers' experiences, collective wisdom, and help at their fingertips.
