Director Leigh Janiak's HONEYMOON is a poignant yet horrifying tale of true love colliding with the unexpected.

September 12, 2014 US/Pacific

HONEYMOON
A Film By Leigh Janiak.

Los Angeles, CA - SPOILER ALERT!

HONEYMOON Movie Poster HONEYMOON stands out with both it's well directed symmetry and the stand out performances of its co-stars, Rose Leslie (of Game of Thrones) and Harry Treadaway (of Penny Dreadful).

SYNOPSIS: Young newlyweds Paul (Harry Treadaway) and Bea (Rose Leslie) travel to remote lake country for their honeymoon, where the promise of private romance awaits them. Shortly after arriving, Paul finds Bea wandering and disoriented in the middle of the night. As she becomes more distant and her behavior increasingly peculiar, Paul begins to suspect something more sinister than sleepwalking took place in the woods.

Treadaway (CONTROL) and Leslie (HBO's GAME OF THRONES) give captivating leading performances as a couple that takes new love to disturbing depths. With romance slowing giving way to terror, writer/director Leigh Janiak puts her unique stamp on this intimate, chilling thriller.

In and of itself, HONEYMOON seems to be a throwback thriller, if you will. What could have been a horror teen flick of the Eighties is now a thriller of sorts for Twenty-somethings.

And yet, Rose and Harry brought such realism to their characters - a connection that was intensely believable; and, in this affinity, filmmaker Leigh Janiak brilliantly captures one of the essences of humanity: Love.

SPOILER ALERT!

The "IN" Show had the opportunity to participate in a roundtable during HONEYMOON 's Los Angeles Press Day with Director Leigh Janiak and its co-stars, Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway.

Having screened HONEYMOON, I must confess I was looking forward to talking with Director Janiak and I was not disappointed! Here are a few excerpts from that Q&A roundtable; and, to hear the full interview, you can either click the video below or go here.

Had a question about the entities or the beings...

Director Janiak: mhmm (in the affirmative)

the female characters want to protect the males,

sure

the entities seem male,

Yes, they do, don't they? (laughter)

So, I was curious about that...I don't know, did they just happen to be males or something like that?

We thought about the mythology of, you know, the aliens without...I didn't want it to become about that because the movie is about the relationship. I thought it was important to understand why this was happening in the first place and it was really just a very basic like: technology, biological technology that they're using...

...Essentially...we thought about it like transferring a hard drive. You use a wire to get A to B; and so, these aliens have this biological component that they can use the reproductive organs of females - human females - and then can start moving pieces over into their hive consciousness...

I was curious, because for me, it was the theme of love because of the notes and trying to remember who they were and protecting him. It's whatever transformation was happening to her - because you see it - it's still that bit of human, of love.

Completely! That's actually really good that you brought that up because I think that's the thing that Rose and I talked about...is that the last thing to like exist, that is still her, is that love for Paul...

When watching HONEYMOON, one of the biggest takeaways is the rendering of the characters. Even though HONEYMOON is categorized in the horror genre, it isn't a traditional horror film by today's standards.

But a suspenseful thriller it is.

During the HONEYMOON roundtable, The "IN" Show had a few moments with co-stars Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway. They're mutual respect is clearly evident as is their love of their craft.

Both Rose and Harry discuss the nuances of their characters, the process each one tapped into to bring authenticity to the screen and the intense feelings of grappling with the macabre psychological drama the film was portraying. To hear these thoughts and more on HONEYMOON, watch the video here:
