Leslee Scallon Interview
on this year's DWF17.
THE LOT | West Hollywood, CA -
Dances With Films has long been considered to be the
"coveted first stop" on the film festival circuit. Widely known as Los Angeles' largest discovery film festival of emerging talent,
this year's DWF17 is already proving itself worthy of the distinction!
With more than a hundred independent films to be screened over the course of 11 days (May 29 - June 8, 2014), DWF is teeming with
energy! Adding to the incredible 2014 lineup is the DWF announcement of some amazing sponsoring partnerships with long time
indie film champion Laemmle Theaters and new indie exhibitor, Hollywood's Arena Cinema.
One of the many factors that makes Dances With Films
unique is its never wavering purpose to be an independent film festival that discovers fresh, new talent and showcases them to
the industry.
DWF was created in 1996, by Leslee Scallon and Michael Trent. Having been working actors who were also filmmakers, they saw a need for independent films
to be showcased. All too often, filmmakers find that even though their film is finished, the journey to sharing that film has just begun. It was through
this shared experience that Leslee and Michael found themselves called to represent in their way a grass roots community that shared a love for film.
The IN Show had the pleasure to meet with Leslee at DWF's offices at The Lot to
talk about this year's DWF17. Sometimes it's a "lonely existence when you are the one person dreaming your dream," Leslee shared. But we [DWF]
"make a community for you to share experiences with others dreaming the same dream."
From the submissions process to the selection process to the screenings at the DWF, filmmakers are never "alone in their
fight and desire to create something really unique." And, as Leslee shared, this year's DWF17 continues to fight on behalf of the
filmmakers. In fact, DWF has announced an amazing bonus section:
Dances With Kidz! Running concurrently with this year's Dances With Films, Dances With Kidz! showcases films made by
kids as well as for kids.
DWF17 takes place this year from May 29 - June 8, 2014. With incredible showcases, fantastic industry events, power panels and more, this is definitely a film festival
worthy of your attending!
